His Business and Contributions
On October 15, 1931, Dr. Kalam was born in the house of Janullahuddin and Asium. The financial condition of his family was not good because he started working to provide financial assistance at a very young age. However, he never left his studies while doing his work. In 1954, he completed his graduation from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirapalli and studied aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute. After graduation, Kalam joined DRDO as a chief scientist, though very soon he was displaced to the Indian Space Research Organisation as the project director of India's first indigenous satellite missile. Dr. Kalam also served as chief executive of the Guided Missile Development Programme, which included the simultaneous development of a vibration of missiles.
Dr. Kalam also became the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and secretary of DRDO from 1992 to 1999. After his successful contribution as the main project coordinator for the Pokhran II nuclear test, he was called "India's missile man". He was the first scientist who was the President of India from 2002 to 2007 years without any political background.
He wrote a lot of inspirational books such as "India 2020, Ignited Mines, Mission India, The Luminous Spark, Inspiring Thoughts" etc. Dr. Kalam launched a mission for youth called "Watt Can I Give Movement" to eradicate corruption in the country. He served as a guest professor at various institutes and universities in the country (Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and Indore, etc.), as chancellor at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, JSS University (Mysore), Aerospace Engineering at Anna University (Chennai), etc. He was honoured with a number of prestigious awards and honours such as Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Bharat Ratna, Indira Gandhi Award, Veer Savartax Award, Ramanujan Award etc.
